As president of the Association in 1977, Dr. Frank F. Shuler, proposed that ADA past presidents be recognized by a display of their photographic portraits in a printed and bound album in the board room at the Association’s headquarters building. The Board of Trustees later approved the plan and the book was printed in an edition of several copies. The portraits are presented along with a brief biography of the president and historical highlights of the term year on the page facing each in the album.
The album portraits with accompanying biography and historical highlights were then featured in The Journal of the American Dental Association, published in a regular monthly series, 1979-1985.
