Abstract
Doctor Northrop, of New York City, was elected fifteenth president of the Association at the 1875 meeting at Niagara Falls. A considerable part of this meeting and the next was devoted to papers and discussions on the health of the dentist. Many dentists believed that dentistry was a particularly exhausting profession. Doctor Northrop was the first president of the First District Dental Society of New York and first president of the New York Odontological Society. His training was preceptorial and in 1867 he received an honorary dental degree from the Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery. Doctor Northrop was born in New York in 1838 and died in 1908.
