Abstract
Doctor Smith, of Baltimore, was elected thirty-seventh president of the Association at the 1899 meeting at Niagara Falls. The Southern Branch of the Association met early that year in New Orleans. Doctor Smith received the D.D.S. degree in 1881 and the M.D. degree in 1883. He practiced dentistry in Baltimore for thirty-seven years. Offices he held included the presidency of the Southern Dental Association, the Maryland State Dental Association, the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, and the National Association of Dental Faculties. Doctor Smith's special interests included the development of a system of oral hygiene in the Baltimore public schools. He was widely known as an eloquent orator. He was born in Maryland in 1858 and died in 1920.
