Abstract

Doctor Noel, of Nashville, was elected fortieth president of the Association at the 1902 meeting at Niagara Falls. In his presidential address the following year he pointed out that membership in the Association was only 420 out of 28,481 dentists in the United States, or about 1.5 percent. He discussed ways of increasing the membership. In 1903 Doctor Noel was also president of the Southern Branch of the National Dental Association. He was one of the founders of the dental department of the University of Tennessee, which merged with the Vanderbilt University Dental School in 1905. In that year Doctor Noel became a professor of dental pathology at Vanderbilt. He was born in Kentucky in 1852 and died in 1927.
