Abstract
Doctor Morgan, of Nashville, was elected tenth president of the Association at the 1870 meeting in Nashville. As chairman of the Committee of Arrangements, Doctor Morgan delivered an address of welcome. His description of the recent Civil War was vivid: "…this quiet valley of the Cumberland reverberated with the sound of hostile cannon, and men stood aghast as they heard it die away among the rocks and crannies of the distant hills, like the wail of some expiring demon.'' Doctor Morgan served as a trustee of the Ohio College of Dental Surgery and was one of the chief organizers of the dental departments of both Vanderbilt University and Meharry Medical College. He was born in Kentucky in 1818 and died in 1901.
