Abstract
A new associate reflects on the challenges and lessons of transitioning into her father's established practice. The author emphasizes the importance of listening to long-term patients to understand their history and build trust. While new practitioners often feel the need to prove technical skills, patients primarily seek reassurance and continuity of care. Successful transitions require a balance between respecting existing systems and gradually introducing a new perspective. Introductions by the senior doctor can significantly ease patient apprehension. Ultimately, the experience underscores that dentistry is deeply rooted in relationships and communication, requiring patience and humility to maintain the stability of the practice team.
