Abstract
MDA President Dr. Cheri Newman makes the case for membership, arguing that while automatic membership is no longer assumed, the value is essential to the profession. The primary benefit is the collective voice; without organized dentistry (MDA/ADA), dentists would lose advocacy and support, necessitating the eventual reinvention of the system. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the MDA's critical role as a trusted source for guidance on mandates and safe reopening. Beyond intangible advocacy, membership offers substantial, practical advantages that can easily cover the cost of dues. These advantages include financial savings on malpractice, liability, health, disability, and life insurance, along with discounts on continuing education, legal assistance, and practice support services. Membership is framed as having a "professional home" that supports members across all career stages.
