Abstract
The Mission of Mercy (MOM) Project, initiated in 2000 in Wise County, Virginia, provides free dental care to underserved communities through mobile clinics. Over 24 years, MOM has delivered $50.7 million in dental services to over 71,000 Virginians. The project has expanded statewide, involving hundreds of volunteers, and has inspired the creation of permanent dental clinics and similar initiatives in over 30 states. Despite challenges like COVID-19, MOM adapted with smaller-scale Mini-MOM events, continuing to address the critical need for affordable dental care. Legislative changes, including Medicaid expansion, have further supported these efforts.
