Abstract
Michaela Banks, a Class of 2024 student at VCU School of Dentistry, shares her experiences in developing soft skills during her clinical training. Initially overwhelmed, she found that mastering patient communication and management was more challenging than the technical aspects of dentistry. With guidance from faculty, she learned to effectively communicate treatment plans and reassure anxious patients. By improving her soft skills, she has built trusting relationships with patients, enhanced her time management, and strengthened her empathy, which she believes will benefit her throughout her career.
