Editorial Policy and Guidelines

Newsletter Mission Statement:

To serve as a channel of communication between the dental society and members, and to provide information on issues of relevance or concern to the dental profession including, dental society policy and actions, governmental and legislative affairs, membership and recruitment/retention efforts, benefits and services of the SFDDA, FDA and ADA, and to provide a forum for related member views and opinions.

SFDDA Policy on Content Submitted to the SFDDA for Publication:

Submissions to the SFDDA Newsletter may include the following: feature articles, informational articles, editorials, and letters to the editor. These items will be considered for publication based on several factors, including content, length, and relevance to the members and the profession of dentistry.

I. When reviewing all submissions to the newsletter, the following factors are taken into consideration:

  1. Factual accuracy
  2. Redundancy
  3. Excessive length
  4. Relevance to SFDDA members
  5. In the case of a “Letter to the Editor,” whether the letter offers constructive criticism and/or suggestions for a positive outcome
  6. The appearance of personal attacks, libelous and/or defamatory statements, and/or potential antitrust violations.

II. Letters to the Editor shall not exceed 500 words and should be submitted preferably via e-mail.

III. Articles that are “opinion” in nature shall be clearly identified as such upon submission and shall accompany such articles upon printing within the Newsletter.

IV. The Editor reserves the right to edit, accept, or reject items for publication.

V. The SFDDA Newsletter reserves the right to publish an “Editor’s Note” following letters accepted for publication, at its discretion, that support, clarify, and/or refute comments made.

VI. The following general disclaimer shall apply and be printed within the SFDDA Newsletter: Opinions stated in the SFDDA Newsletter are not necessarily endorsed by the South Florida District Dental Association, its Executive Council, or Committees. Advertisements printed should not be construed as an endorsement by the Association of the company, product, or service.
