Abstract
This evidence-based article examines the research connecting oral inflammation and periodontal disease with Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive decline. The author, Anne O. Rice, explores inflammatory, vascular, microbial and airway-related pathways that may contribute to neurodegeneration. Practical applications for dental professionals are highlighted, including blood pressure screening, periodontal therapy, airway assessment and interdisciplinary collaboration. The article positions dentistry as an important contributor to preventive, whole-person healthcare and dementia risk reduction.
