Abstract
This article explores the structural, financial and educational barriers preventing true medical-dental integration despite the overwhelming evidence linking oral health to systemic disease. Drawing from clinical experience and current research, Dr. Brett Kessler argues that dentistry must move beyond procedure-based care toward a collaborative, outcomes-driven healthcare model. The article examines reimbursement reform, interoperability between medical and dental records, expanded preventive screening and integrated care delivery systems. It also challenges the dental profession to embrace a broader role in whole-body health and chronic disease prevention.
