Abstract
Associate Editor Mali Schantz-Feld discusses the evolving responsibilities of dental journal editors, who must navigate not only dental topics but also broader non-dental trends and technological advancements. She highlights how new communication methods, such as teledentistry, social media, and online reviews, have become imperative for dental practices and, by extension, for dental publishing. Referencing Dr. J. Tim Wright's editorial on "Critical Challenges Facing Dentistry," Schantz-Feld notes that emerging technologies like AI, while challenging to adopt, also present opportunities to improve patient data analysis, diagnostics, and workflow efficiency. She asserts that AADEJ is dedicated to providing relevant information, continuing education (CE), and innovative speakers to help members stay at the forefront of these technological changes affecting editing and writing.
She explains that AADEJ's CE webinars and seminars are categorized into six areas for the Certified Dental Editor (CDE) designation:
- General Journalism Topics
- Writing
- Editing
- Layout and Design
- Editorial Leadership and Ethics
- Communications
Schantz-Feld highlights past webinars on generative AI and editorial ethics, and upcoming ones like "How to Reach Your Key/Target Audience Through Effective Social Media". She also details the comprehensive agenda of the upcoming Annual Meeting, which includes sessions on podcasting, securing authors, digital publishing, the AADEJ White Paper on Generative AI, plagiarism, and ADA Commons. She concludes by reaffirming AADEJ's commitment to informing its members about the latest developments in dental writing, editing, and publishing, enabling them to "change your world" and be meaningful participants in the flourishing dental community.
