Abstract
Alisun DeKock of the ADA Library & Archives, introduces ADA Commons, an open digital repository designed to collect, preserve, and disseminate state and local dental association publications. It aims to help organizations grow readership, increase web discoverability, enable full-text search, track usage, and archive past issues securely. Built on Elsevier’s Digital Commons platform, it offers advantages like increased discoverability via major search engines, robust usage insights (e.g., download counts, geographic reach), and secure archiving, all while allowing associations to retain copyright. Participation is free for ADA state and local societies. The article details a phased integration process where the ADA team handles setup and historical content upload, minimizing workload for the association. ADA Commons also includes optional features for author article submission, peer review management, and Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), and can host various content types beyond journals, such as conference proceedings and white papers.
