In 2011, the ADA News included, "Breakfast at the White House: President Obama thanks Dr. Austin for ‘extraordinary’ service," which highlighted Dr. Gordon T. Austin, who retired from military service April 1st after 38 “adventurous” years with the U.S. Navy, during which time he served countless Navy and Marine Corps patients as a dentist. Dr. Austin, along with 50 Gold Star family members -- families who have lost loved ones in military service -- and 11 service organization representatives, were invited to observe Memorial Day with the First Family first at a breakfast and to march in the subsequent wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
